Preparing For An Interview - Know The Do's And Don'ts

Preparing For An Interview - Know The Do's And Don'ts By Vincent Gray

Getting a job interview speaks volumes about your good preparation and about your seriousness to clinch the post. But, don’t forget, the battle is not completely won yet, as preparing for an interview in the right direction can only make you the final winner. This job interview is an occasion, where in the brief opportunity of one-to-one interaction that you get, you have to completely convince the interview board that there’s none who can match your skills, capacities and suitability for the post advertised and none else than you can be their best bet for the job.

You can plan the preparation in three broad phases - before the interview, during the interview and after the interview. ‘Before the interview’ items comprise getting your CV ready, quickly brushing through the affairs of current interest, gathering information about the company and duties/responsibilities of the post, knowing the interview venue so that you can reach there on time, deciding on the dress that you are going to wear for the interview, checking out the popular interview questions and getting ready with their answers.

On the day of interview, the first thing that you should keep in mind is to stay cool and worry-free as far as possible. Start sufficiently early for the interview, and when you are there in the venue, be relaxed. You can consider engaging yourself in some light talk with other interviewees. When you are facing the board, answer the questions to the best of your knowledge and belief. Do not fabricate answers or state things that you’re not too sure about. Show due courtesies to the members, and listen to each question carefully before replying.

After the interview, you have the most important task of sending the interview board member's an individual thank you letter. Thank them for their time to talk to you and know about your achievements and aspirations, for any guidance or suggestion they might have given you, and once again reaffirm your keen interest for the post. In job interviews, this is your last salvo. The amount of ammo you pack in it determines, to a great extent, your chances of coming out with flying colors.
