Job Interview Follow Up. What Are Your Next Steps?

Job Interview Follow up.

After you have had your interview it is good practice to send a handwritten note or friendly email thanking the interview panel their time.

This gives you a chance to reaffirm your interest in the position.

Only you can decide what to put in your letter but it could be something along the lines of;

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity of meeting with you this afternoon I very much appreciate the time you have afforded to me. I would like to say that I am very interested in the job and should there be anything further you would like me to clarify please contact me on the numbers provided on the top of my CV/resume. I look forward to hearing from you in due course.”

Keep it brief. The idea is for the interviewer to read and remember the letter not have to spend twenty minutes reading it.

If you do not hear anything after a couple of weeks, it is a good idea to call to courteously inquire if a decision has been made.

Ask For Feedback.

In the event that you may have been unsuccessful, ask the Human Resources department or the chair of the panel if they could provide you feedback on where you could have developed your answers better.

This is one of the most important development and learning phases of the job interview follow up process.

Don’t be afraid to ask, most employers will gladly meet with you, run over the interview and highlight where you may have gone wron g and where you could have answered better. It also shows the employer that you are committed to your own development and that you want to succeed.

Additionally and just as important, they will remember you at the next interview!
