Second Interview? Read This Article and Get That Job!

The Second Interview

If you have been invited back for a return interview then you are one step further to getting the job!

You have clearly managed to make an impression on your interviewer the first time around and they now want to ask further questions.

Please don’t get complacent a this point; your preparation prior to this interview is as important as it was your first, if not more important.

At this interview stage more senior members of staff wish to meet you to ask you some further questions. Your second interview is more likely to be the most important.

Time may have been against an interviewer initially or the panel will use the first interview as a preliminary to reduce the number of candidates to a more acceptable level.

Additionally there may be more in depth questions that need to be asked to establish your experience, interpersonal skills, competencies and capabilities further.

Remember though, that this is a great achievement so keep your powder dry and be ready to come out shooting at this point.

There will be specific questions the interviewer is looking to find answers to and they are likely to be questions designed at drawing out your capability to do the job or questions based around your previous performance with your present or previous employers.

So it’s a fair assumption that some of the questions will be along the lines of those included in the competency based interviews such as “give me an example of a project you have undertaken and what did you learn from it”. Please see the section here for some good questions asked and the answers.

It is fair to say that most return interviews still follow a formal approach quite like the first interview. In addition, this is where they may ask you to prepare a presentation on a particular topic on some sort of business subject, so be well prepared for this.

You may or may not have met your interviewer at the first interview but whatever happens don’t become complacent, be professional, confident and enthusiastic.

After all, these techniques helped you through to the second interview so keep using what works.

Check out this section to help you with delivering a great presentation.
